Dear (contact_first_name) Giving Tuesday is fast approaching and IWSO has exciting news to share. We are thrilled to announce that The Simmerling-Epting Family Foundation will match your donation to IWSO during Giving Tuesday up to $20,000 including your annual donation if you decide to become a monthly donor to IWSO! This year, funds will be directed to the Children who Witness Violence Program.
A Children Who Witness Violence Program, tailored to meet the unique needs of immigrant and refugee children who have witnessed violence either in the home or during war is desperately needed in Ottawa. This project will support vulnerable immigrant children and their mothers who are struggling to rebuild their lives after violence.
We know, based on experience, when you educate a woman, that knowledge is passed on, and creates a stronger and safer community. Children and mothers will be given the tools and skills they need to confront problems without violence as their first recourse. This in turn creates a healthier and safer school environment and community for all. Intimately aware of the devastating and traumatic effects violence has on women and children, the Simmerling-Epting Family Foundation endeavours to positively contribute not only funds but also knowledge to this extremely critical program in order to change the present and future possibilities for children and their mothers, demonstrating that they are not alone and that there are healthier ways to cope with the challenges of life. IWSO is grateful to have found a contributing partner in the Simmerling-Epting Family Foundation, who believe, like we do, it’s the children we must reach out to directly in order to change systemic attitudes towards violence against women and children. Children who have witnessed and experienced violence need a specific and targeted program to support them and help to create a sense of belonging and community for them as they begin to rebuild their lives in Ottawa.
Remember your donation will be matched.

Sara’s Story:
He wanted to mutilate our daughter and I did not want my child to experience this violence, so I decided to migrate to Canada. I came to Canada as a refugee claimant. Since then, I have been referred to Immigrant Women Services Ottawa (IWSO). They helped me a lot. From the beginning, they gave me space to talk about my experience, they helped me think positively and get back my feeling of worthiness that I had lost for years. I have benefited so much from their support group. There are no words that could assist me in justifying her support. She helped me get an immigration lawyer to assist me in getting my permanent residency in Canada. This was my priority, as I did not want to go back to the abuser. FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART THANK YOU SO MUCH IWSO FOR EVERYTHING, YOU HAVE DONE FOR ME AND FOR MY CHILD.

Thank you for being there to help us help the Immigrant Women and Children of Ottawa and the surrounding areas and we hope that you will consider our programs still worthy of your continued support. Gratefully,
